Events

EXPLORERS/CADETS MAY ONLY COMPETE IN EACH EVENT ONE TIME
ACTIVE SHOOTER

This is a Post team event. You will be divided into teams not to exceed five, depending on the number of Explorers/Cadets in your Post. The team will be given a call and must respond to a building appropriately. The team will be expected to search and secure the building.
Each Explorer/Cadet will need full leather gear including holsters and handcuffs. Only equipment regularly carried in the patrol cars may be used. No SWAT or specialized equipment will be allowed.
A report is NOT necessary. This is an officer survival trophy event.

 

BUILDING SEARCH

This is a two-person team event. The team will be given a call and must respond to a building appropriately. The team will be expected to search and secure the building. Officer survival points will be given in this event.
Each Explorer/Cadet will need full leather gear including holsters and handcuffs. Only equipment regularly carried in the patrol cars may be used. No SWAT or specialized equipment will be allowed.
A report is NOT necessary. This is an officer survival trophy event.

 

COURTROOM TESTIMONY

This is a single person event. “Unknown Risk” Traffic Stop is a prerequisite, as the Explorer/Cadet will be presenting the traffic case to a judge. The Explorer/Cadet will be judged on his ability to present his case in the courtroom.

 

CRIME IN PROGRESS

This is a two-person event. Explorer/Cadet will be dispatched to a crime in progress. They must respond accordingly.
Each Explorer/Cadet will need full leather gear including holsters and handcuffs. Only equipment regularly carried in the patrol cars may be used. No SWAT or specialized equipment will be allowed. Officer survival points will be given in this event.
A report WILL BE necessary. This is an officer survival trophy event.

 

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION

This is a single person event. The Explorer/Cadet will be required to investigate a crime, interview participants of the crime, (which may include witnesses, suspects, etc.) process evidence, and broadcast information as required.
The Explorer/Cadet will be judged on his ability to conduct an investigation and write a report on the incident. You will need to use your Department report forms. The report must include your action taken, statements, list of evidence, etc., and a crime scene diagram if needed.
A report WILL BE necessary.

 

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

This is a two-person team event. Explorer/Cadets will be given a situation, which requires mediation techniques as well as knowledge in criminal law.
The Explorer/Cadets will be judged on officer safety, suspect safety, and officer survival. Explorer/Cadets will need their own leather and handcuffs. You will need to use your Department report forms.
A report WILL BE necessary. This is an officer survival trophy event.

HIGH RISK TRAFFIC STOP

This is a two-person or four-person team event. Explorer/Cadets will be given a situation, which requires high risk traffic stop techniques. They will be judged on officer safety, suspect safety, and officer survival. The officer survival score, however, will go towards the Officer Survival Trophy instead of the High Risk Traffic Stop Trophy. No human shields will be allowed.
Each Explorer/Cadet will need his own leather including handcuffs and a holster.
A report is NOT necessary. This is an officer survival trophy event.

 

IMPAIRED DRIVER INVESTIGATION

This is a single person event. Explorer/Cadet will need to determine if the driver is impaired or not and take appropriate action (medical, mental, DUII, etc.) *Explorer/Cadet should familiarize themselves with Oregon DUII law, and SFST’s. Investigation will begin with contact with the driver and continue until either release, citation, or arrest. A driver’s license is NOT needed for this event.
A Report WILL BE necessary.

 

MYSTERY EVENT

This is a two-person team event. The Explorer/Cadet will be given information about some type of activity and they will have to conduct an appropriate investigation.
Each Explorer/Cadet will need his own leather including handcuffs and a holster.
A report is NOT necessary. This is an officer survival trophy event.

 

PRECISION DRIVING

This is a single person event. The Explorer/Cadet will need to be a licensed driver – NO PERMITS. The driver MUST show his driver’s license before starting the event. Explorer/Cadets will drive through a driving course with cones, and points will be deducted for vehicular contact with the cones. A car will be provided for this event.
A report is NOT necessary.

 

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

This is a single person event. The Explorer/Cadet will be given information about suspicious activity in the area and will contact a subject in that immediate area. The Explorer/Cadet will be judged on officer safety (including such things as searching, discretion, positioning, etc.), suspect safety, and officer survival. The Explorer/Cadet will also be judged on their paperwork, either a custody report or a F.I.R. You will need to use your Department report forms.
Each Explorer/Cadet will need his own leather including handcuffs and a holster.
Either a custody report or a F.I.R. card WILL BE written. This is an officer survival trophy event.

 

UNKNOWN RISK TRAFFIC STOP

This is a single person event. The Explorer/Cadet will need to be a licensed driver – NO PERMITS. Explorer/Cadets will drive a marked police car (which is provided). The judge in this event will be the passenger in the police car, and the Explorer/Cadet will have to perform a “routine” traffic stop on a suspected traffic violator. Appropriate enforcement action should be taken. This may include issuing a citation or warning.

A citation or warning WILL BE written. This is an officer survival trophy event.
